The Brindisi String Quartet was formed at Aldeburgh, England in 1984. The Quartet’s perspective interpretation and its power and intensity of performance has fired a reputation as one of Europe’s most exciting string quartets. By setting established classics alongside contemporary, new or forgotten masterpieces in their international concert programming, the Quartet have built a loyal and enthusiastic audience.
The Brindisi celebrated its tenth anniversary with performances at its birthplace, Aldeburgh, a series at the Wigmore Hall, London and the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam and a Bartok cycle at the Almeida Theatre in London.
The quartet has made highly-praised recordings of works by British composers, Benjamin Britten, Frank Bridge and Imogen Holts; a Frank Bridge quartet cycle and, most recently, the work of David Matthews released in his 50th year. They have also recorded he work of the French composers Gabriel Pierné and Guillaume Lekeu.
The Brindisi String Quartet was led by Jacqueline Shave, now leader of the Britten Sinfonia, with Patrick Kiernan second violin, Katie Wilkinson-Khoroshunin, viola, and Jonathan Tunnell, cello for the recordings made with Metronome. The Quartet disbanded in 2004.
Jacqueline Shave recorded chamber piano trios of music by Ravel and Faure with Metronome with Juno's Band. Recordings of Schubert Quartets were made but have yet to be released.
