Born in 1951, British lutenist Christopher Wilson studied the lute with Diana Poulton at the Royal College of Music in London fron 1970 to 1972. His growing interest for the repertoire combining song and lute lead him to work with such singers as countertenor Michael Chance and tenor Rufus Müller. Christopher Wilson gave his first concert at the Wigmore Hall in 1977.
Christopher Wilson founded Kithara with his regular duo partner, lutenist and singer Shirley Rumsey and another ensemble called the Lute Group.
He has performed widely in Great Britain and abroad, as a soloist and with other renowned musicians and ensembles, such as Fretwork, The Consort of Musicke, English Baroque Soloists, Gothic Voices and The Hilliard Ensemble.
Christopher Wilson is a frequent guest on television and radio and he has interpreted and recorded numerous solo works for lute from the XVIth and XVIIth centuries. He has become one of Great Britain’s most prominent lutenists. He has toured in most European countries, Russia, South America, the USA, Hong Kong and Japan.
Christopher Wilson also teaches lute at the Trinity College of Music in London.
