Born in 1950, English soprano Gillian Fisher studied at the Royal College of Music in London with John Carol Case and Jessica Cash. She then began a successful career, giving concerts all over the world. Gillian Fisher performed at the Albert Hall and the Barbican Hall in London, at the Lincoln Center in New York and at the Suntori Hall in Tokyo to name a few.
She has also sung with the Amsterdam Concertgebouw Orchestra and has taken part in the Handel Festivals in London and in Maryland, USA. In 1985 Gillian Fisher performed various works by Handel, including Theodora, for his 300 year birth anniversary. Two years later she sang the soprano solo in Messiah with the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra under Tom Koopman.
Gillian Fisher appeared with the vocal group The Sixteen in Italy, with whom she made a world tour in 1992, also singing Messiah.
Even though she is primarily a Baroque singer, Gillian Fisher’s repertoire extends to vocal works from contemporary composers such as Darius Milhaud. Her recordings with vocal and instrumental ensembles, include Purcell’s King Arthur and The Fairy Queen (the former with Monteverdi Choir and John Eliot Gardiner, the latter with The Sixteen and Harry Christophers), Handel’s The Triumph of Time and Truth with the London Handel Orchestra and Danys Barlow, Great Baroque Arias and Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater with Michael Chance and The King’s Consort amongst others.
Gillian Fisher has frequently appeared in broadcasts such as Central TV’s series Man and his Music.
