New works for solo cello and for cello and piano by the English composer Adrian Williams, Sping Requiem is an elegy on the death of his Serbian father-in-law. Quatre Cantilènes is a collection of aphoristic movements, predominantly slow, simple and song-like. Images of a Mind is a kind of rhapsody on a self-portrait by Sidney Nolan the composer saw fresh in the artist's house. The Cello Sonata is an early piece written while Williams was at the Royal college of Music.

What draws me is a particular kind of Englishness, linked with Sibelius, the dedicatee if Moeran and Vaughan Williams. A Nordic Englishness. A Delius Song of the High Hills Englishness. I love the Celtic Twilight music of, for example, Arnold Bax because of the landscape it suggests to me, the world, the period in history to which it belongs. In fact I'm your typical late English Romantic - Adrian Williams
